Emil Rittershausen (1852-1927) learned the art of flutemaking from Theobald Boehm. While he made flutes in Berlin for the European market, he also exported his flutes to the United States in partnership with Carl Fischer. This flute is one such flute.

While the tonal quality is consistent with a wooden flute, it’s surprisingly large, bold, and resonant – the type of flute that commands attention.

The scale is very even and consistent. No awkward adjustments are needed to stay in tune. The flute plays well at A=440 Hz with the headjoint pulled out to 1/8″. The pads are in excellent condition, and the flute comes in its original case.
