This flute was manufactured for the military during WWII. All pieces – the headjoint, body, and foot – are stamped with the serial number. The letter “C” is also stamped beneath the barrel to indicate its key.

Pads are in excellent condition and the flute performs well in its current condition. No obvious dings or scratches. The only blemish is the C touch key that was resoldered at the post. (Perhaps this flute has seen some battle? Or it may have been used in a bar fight. We have no history on this flute, but it’s always fun to make up a story or two.) The flute was also originally built with a B-C trill, a common feature of early Haynes flutes. At the request of the previous owner, Gary Lewis converted that key into a standard Bb shake.

Sound-wise, the flute is what you would expect from a commercial Haynes – a tone with a smooth, creamy texture and lovely taper. It plays strongly in the low register as well as in the upper register.

The flute comes with a non-original Leblanc case.
