Carl Schreiber (1871-1931) is mainly known for his wooden flutes. He started his workshop in 1898, which lasted for several decades. This flute is an early example of his fine craftsmanship. The scale was constructed for A=440 Hz, and two original headjoints are included. The short head plays comfortably at A440 with the headjoint set at 6 mm. The long head also plays comfortably at A440 with the headjoint pushed in all the way. Presumably, the long head was used to play at A438 or A436.
The flute has a very sweet sound. It was restored to near perfect condition many years ago, but some adjustments are required to fully appreciate its potential. The wood is in excellent condition, and the original case is in fair condition.
